This book salvaged a relationship gone bad.

I had broken off a relationship with a heavy heart...fearing it was going nowhere. When I read this book (in one sitting) I knew I had to send it to "him" to read...shortly thereafter he began calling, 3 months later we had reconciled, and 6 months later we moved in together...this book was the catalyst.I highly recommend this book.

A Fresh Voice with Fresh Thoughts

Usually I cannot be found within five miles of a "relationship" book, and I picked this one up only when urged to (threatened) by a friend. And there went my preconceived notions, out the window. This book is enchanting. It is reassuring. If all men were as savvy as the author, there would have been no need for him to write it. As it is, he provides an illuminated, conscientious guide to navigating the process of making a commitment to another human being. I'm grateful too that this book came out in paper, so that I can bend it, mark it up, and afford to loan it to people. Read on!

Entertaining, but also insightful

I bought this book as somewhat of a joke for a friend, but after reading it I realized that it is actually a helpful resource for anyone struggling with the issue of commitment. It provides an insightful look into the thought process we go through and provides rational explanations for the difficulties that anyone faces in making (what we hope to be) a lifetime commitment. I recommend for not just commitment-shy men, but for the women dating them! It makes you understand what they are going through and perhaps even help with the best way to deal with it.

Sooo funny!

Any guy who is freaked out about marrying that perfect women NEEDS to read this book! It was right on the money! James Barron has spelled out every male commintment demon and emotion to the letter, and he has done so in a sidesplittingly funny way. 5 Stars!

Where were you when I needed you?

Nice job Mr. B. for capturing my life on these pages - but where were you when I need you! I was (honestly) an evolved, caring, capable of intimacy guy who was classically marriage-phobic -- having lots of fun, many really good relationships (several 1-3 years long) but in the end still stuck, and walked (ran, usually, ambivalently torturing myself....) away from some pretty wonderful women because "I wasn't ready", whatever that meant. I finally figured it out, (no help from you thanks), got married at 42 years old and now have two beautiful children who I wouldn't trade for the world. For any man out there who sounds like me - - - read this book.
