A Theatre of Social Vignettes...

This scholarly text is thoroughly readable, engaging, and fascinating to explore, whether you're a pronounced historian or an armchair time traveler. Each chapter presents an intriguing set of characters (usually two, sometimes three), taken from important points on the timeline of western civilization, and presented in an equally intriguing format. The historical figures are presented as "actors," with a detailed setting, several acts of action, and a conclusion which draws the material to a peak. Covering the ancient and classical world through early Christian life, the creators provide detail and dialouge on many topics, including gender roles, politics, military action, and social development. The accounts are well-constructed and enjoyable, backed up with provided excertps from various sources. A great addition to the library of any historian or scholar of womens' studies.
