The Best Book on the Holocaust

If you could only read one book on the Holocaust, this is it.The late and great Harry Cargas was a religious Catholic, who thought of himself as a post-Auschwitz Christian;this book,as he claims, could not have been easy to write.Cargas viewed all 40,000 photos at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem, but not systematically as he planned.First he somehow made it through ten thousand, then abruptly left Israel and returned to his family. He returned and the finished is his intro,a Forward written by Elie Wiesel and his take on 61 photos. The memory of Harry Cargas is a blessing.

Shadows

This book was a hard read. However, it gives a clearer picture of what happened during World War II. The photographs are not modern day photoshopped. The author took great care with his commentaries, but also let the reader know this is not a laughing matter. I have had a hard time getting through some of the pictures, but I think if we as a society sees these pictures and can remember what could happen to any of us, then maybe it won't happen again.
