very informative

I worked with trafficked women in the Philippines for one year and this book laid the groundwork for so much of the things I came to know while working with these women. This book is so amazing and you should read it!

Read it. Be terrified.

This book is truly horrifying. It is hardly a secret that Asia is the champion of sex "slave trade," but I could never imagine the volume of this trade. The author has done a marvelous job gathering and summarizing the facts. She patiently analyzes various factors contributing to the situation. You would learn about the way various cultures not only turn a blind eye but actually encourage a man to be unfaithful in marriage. You would learn about the corrupt governments that actually profit from sex trade. You would also learn about terrible conditions many people leave (compared to what many westerners would consider "terrible") that make them sell their daughters to brothels. Finally, you'll read hundreds of real life stories told by young prostitutes. Many of them would be dead by the time you read their stories - being sold as an underage virgin at the age of 12, contracting AIDS by 20 and dying by 25 is the usual path for many of those girls.This book is not perfect. Firstly, I found the narration extremely repetitive. Many facts are presented over and over gain: for example, the fact that many young girls from poor Asian countries like Nepal and Cambodia are forced to work in brothels in richer countries has been repeated at least 6 times throughout the book. Without the repetition, the book would become much easier to read.Secondly, I don't share the feminist bias in the analysis of the roots of sex trade presented in the book. For example, the author claims that prostitution is a consequence of men's need to dominate women - I don't believe it is that simple. This bias aside, the book is logically correct and it presents a coherent picture.Despite these shortcomings, the book sends a very powerful message. I suggest you read it - it will make you aware. If many people become aware, maybe they will be able to change the situation, making the world a better place for all of us.

a thorough investigation

This was a marvelous book. Although 'out of stock' I own it and it is worth finding. A treasure the details the horrible brutality perpetrated against women, mostly teens in asia. It documents the vile lifestyle of men who pay for sex from Japan, to Thailand to the Phillipines to India and the savagery that is being forced upon innocent women that are traffiked between these nations. Usually kidnapped from the poor regions, lured with promises of money these women are kept as slaves and brutalized from age 11 until they are rife with desease and they are casted out like trash. It makes ones blood boil to read these accounts but is worthwhile
