Good Basic Intro Text

Held's book is a good introductory text on Baroque Art, focusing first on Italy and then on the diffusion of Baroque into France and Northern Europe. Good intro for non-specialists, or folks planning to visit centers of the Baroque such as Rome, Paris, Amsterdam. The only shortcoming is a scant survey of German and Eastern European art of the era. Nice sections of color plates make the used copies a real bargain. This book is part of the Library of Art History.
