Better than the First.....

This book is great. Tons better than the first, which was awesome. A lot of action and suspense. I couldnt put the book down. I read it in less than a day. I can wait for the next one. The characters get more complicaed and the new character the enter in this book are one of a kind. Faith Hunter gets better and better. She describes her character with such detail it does not take much though to picture them. I highly suggest this book but should read the first one, Bloodring, first.

An enjoyable read

After reading Bloodring by Faith Hunter, I was looking forward to the 2nd book, Seraphs. Due to some negative reviews, I borrowed it from the library instead of buying it. I enjoyed reading it so much that I will buy it anyway!!! Faith Hunter is an excellent writer and draws you into her Post-Apocolyptic world in the first page. I really like this new SciFi Fantasy writer and rate her up there with Anne McCaffrey in creating a different world. I hope in her 3rd book, Host, she tells more about the Seraphs and the Most High - are they aliens or are they really God and Angels? Wish I had thought of this idea!!! RobinA

Finally, authentic creativity!

First, a round of applause for author Faith Hunter! I picked this book up at a store after one look at its cover. "Hunky angels, hmm!" I thought. Well, the book goes way beyond that and I could not put it down! Faith Hunter does an excellent job at creating a world, and a world with quite risky guidelines, as it is set at a literally post-apocalyptic era -- the world should have ended but did not. The religious motifs were handled carefully and in a manner which I have never seen before. Okay, seraphs who can mate with humans... strange and a tad unsettling at first, but I thought FH pulled it off successfully. At times, the descriptive parts (in which Thorn, a neo-mage, is inside her Circle of Power) can get a bit tiresome in the details, but the plot is fluid and cohesive and more than makes up for that. The characters feel real and you can genuinely care for them. When I read this book I was unaware that *Seraphs* was the 2nd book in a series, but after a few pages it felt like a sequel -- in a good way! Despite only reading the first book (*Bloodring*) after *Seraphs*, I wasn't lost or confused, as the author does an awesome job of clueing you in. I thought *Seraphs* was a great book and a quick read, and highly entertaining. And completely worth it!

When's the next????

I was unable to put this book down. After reading the first of the series i was excited to read the second, and rightfully so. You are brought along with the story with the ability to try and predict what's next to come with out the plot being obvious. I can't wait for the next instalmant.

Excellent 2nd novel

Seraphs is an excellent second novel, continuing the story of neomage Thorn St. Croix that began in Bloodring. Though it's set in a postapocalyptic world, full of battles among demons, seraphs, humans, etc, it's the relationship aspect and the downright good story telling that makes this such a wonderful book, IMO. Faith touches on all-too-human prejudices, pettiness, mob mentality and misguided actions taken in the name of religion, but balances it with hope, true friends, and caring. Though Thorn begins to learn more about herself and what she can do as a mage, there is just as much (if not more) that she doesn't understand; but she's starting to put some of the pieces together. As when she's questioning Lolo and again with the succubus, just knowing what questions to ask gains knowledge, even without answers. She's changing at a rapid pace in Seraphs but doesn't know why or what it all means. I can't wait to see what happens with Ciana, and I also liked the addition of the Flames and could picture them darting around. Eli returns in Seraphs and is a favorite character of mine, and we see another more serious side of Lucas, but we're left unsure whether he can be trusted or not. To try to make this as objective as a review as I can, I should say what I didn't like about Seraphs, but honestly, overall I think it's a very good book. The only negative might be that I did think that occasionally the detailed descriptions of the stones got a little 'heavier' than maybe was necessary and seemed to bog down the flow of the story just a bit at times; but admittedly, this attention to detail is what many readers will particularly enjoy, so it's really not a negative. But talk about an interesting, cliffhanger of an ending! Way to torture the poor readers, lol. I feel the need to go back and read Bloodring and then Seraphs again to prepare for Host. I like that in books - the need and the desire to reread them because you know that there are important clues that you missed or didn't see the first time around. There is a lot of depth to this novel, and I highly recommend it.
