Here they describe the criminal and psychiatric histories of Broadmoor patients and the treatment they receive. They go on to discuss the procedures and decision-making process relating to patients' discharge, and present the frank opinions of patients and doctors about the hospital. Divided into two parts, the book studies patients suffering from psychotic illnesses as well as those detained under the legal category of psychopathic disorder. Based on their conclusion that compulsory detention of such offenders is unjustified, the authors recommend major changes in law and practice.
