I pulled this book off the shelf when I was halfway between the Galapagos Islands and the Marquesas Islands when my sat-nav had failed. By following Kittredge's straightforward lessons my landfall was right on time and right on spot. What a relief that was! My hats off to the author. A great book that should be onboard any yacht going offshore. Thanks a million.
Self-taught Navigation

If you are planning on sailing across an ocean, you should have this book on board. All sailors these days are going to have electronic navigation on board, but most of us will also have a sextant on board just in case the electronics fail. Well if that should happen you want this no-nonsense book with you. It gives you just what you need to pick up a sextant, nautical almanac and the HO249 and find out where you are.
easy how-to for celestial navigation

the best simple and to the point how-to book of celestial navigation that I have found (and i've looked pretty hard). Doesn't cover some of the harder concepts and doesn't explain theory so much as a quick "get hands on sextant approach".
