Rediscoverd NLT

My desire is to know how best to study the word of God in it's most accurate form, as true as possible to the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic. I love the KJV, it is poetic, and majestic. Some verses just don't sound right out loud if it isn't in the KJV. It occassionaly makes it difficult to catch subtle points because of the differences in the english language and word usage over time however. NLT for me was for enjoyment and "straight through" reading. For a couple of years, the NASB, after lots of study, has been my bible of choice for being the "truest" to the originals for serious word/concept study. Not that I would disagree with anyone elses idea of the "best" translation in terms of accuracy. The ESV a good medium between readability and word for word translation. Accidently, as I was reading First Samual and had some problems with a passage in the NASB, grabbed the NLT (thought it was the ESV), and Behold! The NLT shed some light on more than a few passages. After reading the NLT version, the NASB was much more clear to me. I not only found the NLT an easier read, but I found it to shed some light and assisted my NASB study. In my view, the NLT is an excellent companion to go with your bible of choice for deep word study/soul searching. I used to think, by the way, if it wasn't KJV, you could be led to error. I now realize that prayer, and having a receptive heart is of primary importance. If one can understand and read one translation better, one is more likely to USE the book. Use your friends who are strong in the word, your pastor, a good commentary (Mathew Henry expl) and more than one translation to reduce error in interpretation. Just my opinion.

Wonderful

A must for new and old believers. i purchased this book in Oct of 1980. mine is held to gether with rubberbands. i shared it with a friend today July 2006. i will be purchasing this book for my friend and another on for myself GOD BLESS

Plain & Simple!!

This Bible is great, especially for people who don't have time to translate the messages behind the scriptures. I recommend it to everyone who wants to understand the Word of God plain and simple...it also has suggested readings about various topics such as Love, Faith, Strength, etc...AND there's an Table of Contents in the front so you don't miss the Pastor's scripture reading trying to flip through the whole Bible! The words are printed in standard size, so those who have trouble reading may need to use their glasses or another magnification tool...

Contrary to what some say: this is the WORD OF GOD!

I strongly disagree with the person who said that they didn't agree that this translation is the Word of God. I have been searching for a Bible that is easy to read and understand for some time now and The New Living Translation is only one that has captured my attention and let me truly be able to understand God's word. This Bible is for anyone who wants to walk closer to God and be able to understand His message to us. This Bible is, BY ALL MEANS, the Word of God put into terms we can all understand and benefit from.
