This book contains some great works by Abramovitsh, and is a pleasant way to discover him. The reader should be warned that it does not seem to have been edited with an academic reader in mind. "The Little Man", "Fishke the Lame", and "Shem and Japheth on the Train" are translated in "full," while "The Mare", "The Travels of Benjamin the Third", and "Of Bygone Days" are only to be tasted. Abramovitsh is a fascinating writer and this book provides a number of his works in English. Dan Miron's work would be an indispensable companion.
