Dog Lover's Story!!

It's the true story of a black labrador--with a few other breeds mixed in--named Winn, and the bond that she and her owner shared. Winn was a rescue dog from the SPCA that Jen adopted when she realized she had a need for something else in her life, to fill a void that relationships with men left empty. As their relationship grew, so did their family. Winn was very protective of Jen, but as she grew older, their roles would switch, and taking care of Winn was becoming full-time. This story--every walk she detailed, and every trip she took--reminded me of my own dog. I went for walks with her all the time, back when I was in middle and high school. But I was on the opposite end of the SPCA system; in August of 2005, when she was only 7 years old, Midnight had to come with my mom and me to the Springfield MSPCA. She was a clean and healthy and well-behaved shepherd/retriever mix, we just had to give her up when we lost our house. I can only hope she ended up with a family as loving as Jen's. Winn's is such a touching story. It was a quick read, finishing it in a matter of hours, and it's truly a good book for any dog lover.

A Great Book for Animal Lovers

I was in tears by the time I turned the last page. This true story had me running over and hugging and kissing my two dogs by the time I was done reading. Carle's experiences with her dog are experiences that many dog owners can relate to. Plus, I learned some dog training tips, which was a nice bonus.

This book was...well, it made me sigh and think of my own "Winsome" dog, my chocolate lab. Ike. I grew up with Ike and after reading this heartwarming "tail" I wanted to travel back in time, rub his tummy, and let him lick my ice-cream cone.

Nice Read

I'm not a "dog person" but I do like a book that makes me smile. This one did. The writing is conversational in tone. The pictures painted by the words left me smiling. I did a mental "happy dance" over and over again while reading this book.

Heartfelt story that will make you hug your dog!!!

This book is wonderful, even more so because Carle donates the money to the MDSPCA. I had to keep reading and finished it in a few hours. The tale of Winn was comical because I could relate to a lot of the characteristics and personalities that I also attribute to my dog. My husband actually kept looking at me because I was laughing out loud. Thank goodness he wasn't there when I finished it because, not only was I crying, but I understood with even more certainty, the value of having a family pet, which is certainly more like a child. Tate Publishing is a wonderful company that truly puts out good, quality books as they also published my mother-in-law's book, Tell Me Nana-The Lamplighter!
