I found this book at a thrift store and because I wasn't familiar with the author, I almost passed it up. I'm so glad I didn't!!! This book was good from the very first page to the last. Gillian is a twenty-year-old spinster who's father is determined she find a husband immediately. In her desire to be alone to think, she accidentally overhears two "spies" talking in the garden. When she tries to tell her father and others, they don't believe her except for one man - a notorious rake named Lord Logan Hammond. Little does she know that he was one of the "spies" she heard in the garden. Logan is interested in her at first only to find out what she knows about his meeting, but the more time he spends with her the further involved with her he becomes. In spite of Logan's reputation, Gillian's parents are thrilled with Logan's interest in their daughter and hope for a marriage between the two. Gillian hopes, too, but doesn't really believe it will happen. Instead she hopes to discover love for the first time with the man of her dreams even if it doesn't go anywhere from there. But it does go much further from this as we are carried from one dilemma to another and from England to Charleston, South Carolina. What a ride it is!!! I fell in love with both Logan and Gillian, as well as, Gillian's mother (Helena) and Logan's grandfather (Henri). What a cast of characters throughout this book, too. It's one of those books that lingers on in your mind after you've finished it. I hated to leave this couple behind. Don't miss reading this one -- if you can find a copy.
Great!

I loved this book. I could not put it down until 3 in the morning! It makes you want to continue reading just to see how the two main characters ined up int he end! One feels really close to Gillian Marlowe and Logan Hammond(the town main characters), this book left me wanting more!
