There has been a large amount of study during the last few decades on incised valley-fill deposits (for example, Dalrymple and others, 1994), and on their potential as oil and gas reservoirs (for example, Dolson and others, 1991). Surprisingly few however, have well-documented examples showing the detailed heterogeneity within ancient valley fill successions. Even rarer are studies of valley fills that have large proportions of fluvial strata within them, as most have a significant proportion of estuarine facies.
