A friend recommended this book to me when I told her about a similar idea I had for a novel. Thankfully, my idea differs from this story - so no competition there! Reading the first chapter, I wondered what this had to do with a writer's retreat in Scotland. It starts off on a hot luxury paradise island, which the author uses to create a 'hook' to intrigue her audience and set up the content of later chapters. She devises a roller coaster ride for the main characters, with a few stereotypes thrown in for good measure. Mary Nickson has created characters who you will care about and a plot which, though easy enough to follow, has twists, turns and a satisfying conclusion. A mystery and romantic novel combined. A recommended read for holidays, cosy winter evenings, long journeys, and times when you can indulge in an hour or two of reading
