The characters of Second Chances seem like familiar friends. The characters of Second Chances seem like familiar friends. The authors, Felicia Catching and Michelle Johnson, give their characters the depth, dimensions and imperfections of real-life-people. The seem like familiar friends, so that you are compelled to read and find out what they did next and how the other characters react. Beginning with Niecey and her best friends, from childhood, their dilemmas and challenges are all too familiar. Indeed by the time you finish the book it is as though these are people with whom you have walked some twists and turns of life and sad to end the relationship.

This book deserves a first chance!

When SECOND CHANCES arrived, two things stood out to me: the beautiful rose on the cover and all those pages behind it! Once I started reading though, I forgot about all that, due to the eye-easy large type and interesting story.Told through the first person, this story tells the tale of Denise Howard, a recently divorced mother of two, and the journey she takes through single parenthood, dating, and child custody battles. Determined to reach her dreams, long abandoned to embrace those of her husband, a well -known politician, Denise sorts through her past, allowing God to direct her future. The lives of Denise's friends, Dee and Kim, make for interesting subplots as they too seek to embrace God's second chances after triumphs and tragedies in their own lives. I very much enjoyed reading this novel which has a very timely & timeless message. It is a great celebration of sisterhood & a wonderful look at one woman's spiritual journey. Both believers & seekers will relate to the characters & their situations. Christians must be sure to read it & then share it with all their friends--both believers & not-yet-believers!

great character psychology

I liked the way the authors developed the main character with insight and realism. It was very interesting and useful to experience the thoughts and feelings of a person so different from me. Excellent work!

good relationship book

I am really enjoying this new African American Christian fiction genre! I enjoyed reading this book. It's a story of a woman trying to put her life back together after divorcing her husband of 12 years. The authors illustrate the emotions and feelings not only of coping with divorce, single parenthood, but also focus on discovering one's destiny. There are alot of plot twists and turns that take the story in so many directions. All in all, God remains sovereign in everything that happens. For those that enjoy Christian fiction, this is a great addition to your collection.
