I live in Northern California and went looking for something that I could use as a guide of sorts to nature in general - then I happened to find this wonderful book sitting on a shelf at my local Borders Book Store and was totally fascinated and delighted at what I had discovered. I didn't even know that such books existed and was totally pleased with my discovery. I bought the book around 2000 and have used it ever since then. The information is reliable and accurate as well as informative about what I might be observing be it whale watching or bird watching. The author Bill McMillion did a great research job on this book. It is simple and easy to read and follow and will help you find something to do outdoors all year long if you are lucky enough to live in this part of California. I recommend this book for all residents of this part of the state and to those who may be coming to visit.

Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 24 years ago
This outstanding book is organized by month and details the natural events occurring in Northern CA. For each month, the author describes a number of key events and provides detailed information about primary and alternate locations to witness these natural events. I have used this book for the last 4 years to plan day and weekend trips throughout Northern CA. The appendix is worth the price of the book, as it details address and contact information for key federal, state, regional and private agencies. Whether you are visiting or are a resident of Northern CA, you will find this book invaluable reference to explore the flora and fauna of this area.
