Poetic Biography

Most reviews of this book do not understand what David Henderson is up to. Henderson is an artist in his own right and his biography of Hendrix is a great read. Henderson is an artist forged in the same cultural milieu as Hendrix. Henderson was an important figure in the Black Arts Movement and he is working in the New Journalism tradition (Hunter Thompson, Thomas Wolf etc.) so don't expect generic writing and a presentation of "facts." This is a poetic biography and it brings Hendrix to life. If you are put off by "slang" and are appalled by any deviation from the New York Times Style Sheet you should probably skip this book, but if you want to spend some time digging Jimi, his triumphs and tragedy you should get this book. If you were not at Monterey Pop, or Woodstock, or the Berkley Community Theater in 1970 when Hendrix dedicated the show to the Black Panther Party, you should get this book-- it is the next best thing to being there.

Jimi

Good price. Speedy delivery. What more could I ask for? Keep up the good work.

Good

Frank Zappa once said, "Rock and roll journalism is stuff written by writers who can't write, about musicians who can't play music, for readers who can't read." This is an exception, in that it is a highly readable and well-written book. The author has very good academic writing credentials, the like you almost never see among rock journalists. A fat book, that I read quickly.

With every turn of a page you discover the real life of jimi

This book started off a little slow but after a few pages you got right into it. It was the inside-out details that got me turning the pages. From his remarkable preformance at Monterey with "the expierience" to his last months in his own recording studio "electric ladyland" with "band of gypsies." His life was filled with turns and dave henderson does a remarkable job writing in words what jimi has done with his guitar. It goes through jimi's childhood happyness to his adult acid adictions. Tripping left and right jimi hendrix brought us a sound we would never forget. After this book I will never forget jimi and as soon as you read it im sure you wont either!

Scuse' me while I kiss the sky, my opinion

I haven't actually finished the book just yet, I recently purchased the book for more that I should have.. But so far I find it to be the best Jimi Hendrix biography I've ever read... Mr. Henderson did an excellent job with the research and writing... nice job I give it a 10/10
