A SFWA-SFWA Reading Anthology is the subtitle. It is divded into 10 sections, and each section has an introductory essay that is co-written by what the book introduction says is a combination of a teacher/critic and a science fiction writer, including names like Asimov, Pohl, Silverberg, etc. The 10 sections are supposedly Mythic Patterns that are common, or story types if you like. 1. Ambiguity 2. The Remarkable Adventure 3. Beyond Reality's Barriers: New Dimensions 4. Aliens 5. The Scientist 6. The Machine and the Robot 7. More Than Human? Androids, Cyborgs and Others 8. The City 9. Utopias and Dystopias 10. Apocalyse If you don't want to read often very academically styled essay, just skip these I would suggest, and read the stories, which are overall a decent selection, averaging 3.48.
