Say It Right_ or How to help those slow at learning to speak a foreign language.

I really needed something that would help me pronounce the words correctly. Listening to CDs only makes me question if I'm really hearing it right. This reference helped somewhat except just like with English, when you speak quickly parts of words get cut off and become a language that can't be translated in a book. Use this book as a tool, but don't expect it or anything else you buy, to make you appear Brazilian, Portuguese or something you're not. I did think it was better than having just a dictionary and actually attempting to repeat phrases turns out to be okay as long as you smile and admit you're a tourist. The best times I had were just showing people the book and laughing with someone who could not speak English. We still found a way to communicate.

EPLS is a great resource for pronunciation

I used the "Say it right in Brazilian Portuguese" book in conjunction with a language DVD (Semantica) to get a basic understanding of Portuguese. This book, and the other EPLS books I have used, is a great resource to understanding the nuances of the language. I highly recommend this book and the other EPLS books in the series.
