Disturbing background but excellent story

The topic is hard to talk about and even believe but I have never read one of Mrs Gardner's books and I felt a difficult topic was made into a interesting and enlightning book. One of the best I have read in a very long time. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it. If you like criminal thrillers this will not disappoint.

Great Suspense!

FBI Special Agent Kimberly Quincy lost her mother and her sister to a sadistic killer. Her father was one of the FBI's best profilers, and her FBI Agent husband was rapidly moving up the ranks. When Kimberly refused to step back from the harder cases due to her pregnancy, some thought she was still trying to prove herself. She wasn't. Kimberly tried to back off for the sake of her baby, but following leads and tracking killers was in her blood. It started when a young prostitute named Delilah Rose contacted Kimberly with a story regarding Mr. Dinchara (an anagram for arachnid). He was obsessed with spiders and would have them crawl over the prostitutes, and had them do `things' while the spiders watched. Now one of the girls he frequently hired was gone. Delilah Rose was convinced that the girl was a victim of foul play. While the situation was creepy, Kimberly had no evidence of wrongdoing. She gave Delilah Rose her phone number and sent her on her way. Later when comparing notes with Special Agent Sal Martignetti, Kimberly realized something was afoot. There were several prostitutes missing and it looked like Dinchara was in the middle of it. Kimberly teamed up with Martignetti. They didn't have a `case' but spent their free time tracking leads. When the leads started piling up, they started tracking the arachnid loving serial killer in earnest. Say Goodbye is an incredible suspense novel. Dinchara is not your average garden variety serial killer. He's like a spider, spinning its web, drawing you in, and then leaves you dangling. It's creepy in places and downright scary in others. Reading late into the night, I had to stop and check the locks on the door more than once. Although I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I must offer a word of caution. First off, if you're scared of spiders, forget this book. You won't get past the first chapter. Say Goodbye also covers several social issues such as kidnapping, child pornography, and rape, in graphic detail. If you have trouble reading about those topics you might want to pass on this book.

Best Lisa Gardner Book Since Perfect Husband

I have always enjoyed Lisa Gardner books. My all-time favorite had been Perfect Husband. I cannot recall how many times I've re-read that book...and re-purchased it...and consider the time, effort, and money well spent. Say Goodbye is just as incredible a story, though very different in plot, texture, and outcome. The twists and turns in the plot, jumping from perspective to perspective, and not being entirely clear on whose thoughts I was privy to would usually have made me put the book down in disgust. This is the first novel of this kind that kept me entranced from the first to the last page. Some of the subject matter is very disturbing, dealing with child-abuse and other terrifying happenings. I believe that Ms. Gardner dealt with each of the issues quite well, not overly detailing the situations or objectifying the abuser or child. That being said, I highly recommend this book...as I do all Lisa Gardner books.

entertaining FBI thriller

FBI Special Agent Kimberly Quincy became somewhat famous for her capture of the infamous Eco-Killer (see The Killing Hour). Thus Atlanta hooker Delilah Rose turns to her with a story that seems more like fiction. Delilah insists that a John calling himself Dinchara is abducting prostitutes. She fears Dinchara, who's allegedly obsessed with spiders as evident by the reverse spelling of his moniker, has kidnapped her best friend Ginny Jones. Although pregnant and preferring to ignore the prostitute anyway as there is no evidence that a crime was committed , Kimberly cannot; guilt reminds her that her mom and sister were victims of a serial killer. Her inquiries lead to no corpses, more prostitutes missing, and the apparent connection between Delilah and Dinchara that the hooker never mentioned during her interviews; Kimberly even begins to wonder if there is such a killer as no solid proof has surfaced. SAY GOODBYE is an entertaining FBI thriller in which the switching veiwpoints make for a terrific tale that showcases the dark Atlanta underground (not the site). Kimberly wonders if a crime has been committed as nothing surfaces to affirm that although ironically the audience knows early on whether one occurred. Readers will appreciate this fine tale in which the heroine ponders whether she might be the fly to Dinchara the spider as nothing seems to come together on the "Spideyman" case. Harriet Klausner
