Excellent and well written. Could not be better.

I have read (or tried to read) a number of "beginner's" financial books, and this was the only one that was both simple enough and comprehensive enough to be useful. Mr. Fischer is a great teacher; he has a real knack for explaining things concisely and precisely. He has structured the book in a completely logical order, assuming nothing. He covers everything a beginner needs to know, including a brief and understandable explanation of how the financial markets and the economy work, what the different investment vehicles are, and how to put the priciples he discusses into practice. He not only explains the what, but also the why of different investment strategies. Another thing I really liked was the tone - it was not jokey and annoying like so many of the "...for Dummies" books. Though it is written with the absolute neophyte in mind, it is respectful. I can't say enough about how good this book is! I am buying copies for my children and all my nieces and nephews. I only wish it had been available when I was younger - I think it would have made a big difference in my life.

Just what I was looking for

In this day and age of constant financial information being broadcast I was looking for a guide that would not complicate but actually educate. I just needed to see through all the clutter and make some informed investments. Mr Fischer certainly has a knack for explaining the big picture, what the different vehicles offer and what you should be aiming toward. I think that this book is a must for anyone who is just starting out fresh in the investing world, It will be useful when I will be explaing finance to my young daughter.

How the Money World Really Works

This is a book that approaches money from a different standpoint than so many of the "get rich quick" books available today. If it were that easy, everyone would be a millionaire. Michael Fischer doesn't fall into that trap with "Saving and Investing" but insteads sets out to demystify money and the financial markets by presenting the reader with the big picture. It really got me thinking about saving and how it is such an important topic - that many avoid thinking about through either dread, ignorance or simply a lack of time. The author's ability to present financial concepts in a clear manner, sticking to what we need to know, makes this a particularly good work on the subject. The book answers many questions on a host of investment types, thereby allowing readers choose what is best for them. It is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand how the money world really works.

Great Book!

If you don't know much about funds, financial markets, the best way to save or invest, or most money matters, this is a great book to read. Managing your finances can be quite daunting without proper understanding and advice. In his book Saving and Investing, Michael Fischer explains it all very clearly. You can see why he is so successful at what he does. You will gain real applicable knowledge that will hopefully help you save and invest and be financially better off. Get this book now!

Comprehensive & Simple to Understand

This book does a great job of addressing a broad range of investments ideas and opportunities. This book is for anyone that wants to understand how saving, investing and financial markets really work - it is not a "quick buck" or "daytrader" overnight book with lots of unlikely promises of sudden riches - the author takes a more fundamental approach to investing (he worked for Wall Street firm, Goldman Saks). The book looks at both stock and bonds, what they are, showing how to approach investing in both these vehicles as well as providing a background of how the capital markets operate. Takes the mystery out of a lot of terms (leverage, compounding, diversification, etc) by walking one through examples of what they mean and how they are used.
