Book Overview

Absurd philosophies, dark surrealism, and the end of the human race . . . God hates you. All of you. He closed the gates of Heaven and wants you to rot on Earth forever. Not only that, he is repossesing your souls and feeding them to a large vagina-like machine called the Walm - an interdimensional doorway that brings His New Children into the world. He loves these new children, but He doesn't love you. They are more interesting than you. They...

One of my all-time favorites

This book truly is one of my all-time favorite works of fiction. This is saying a lot, as I have been an avid reader since childhood and have read multitudes of books from almost as many authors. Carlton Mellick's "Satan Burger" sets itself apart from the rest however, and stands out among the rest of the books in my collection. I first read this around two and a half years ago, and after re-reading it twice it has only gotten better. Mellick's imagination is boundless, and his writing truly shows this. You can tell that he is enjoying creating the fantastic world that "Satan Burger" takes place in almost as much as you enjoy losing yourself in it. His characters, plot, and writing style are original, enjoyable, and inspiring. Anyone who enjoys the pure, euphoric high of imagination needs to read this, and then tell a friend about it.

Everything you ever wanted and some stuff you didn't even know you did

This book is for anyone who has an even remote interest in science fiction, fantasy, punk rock, religion, horror films, the apocalypse, general strangeness, canned food, lint accumulation, or anything else at all. Carlton Mellick (rising cult author gaining praise as the best and most representative author of this generation) creates a world unlike any other in this novel full of dark humor, intriguing ideas, boundless creativity, and, of course, a fast food restaraunt run by the Prince of Lies himself. You may not have realized it, but you have wanted to read a book this good your entire life. And to top off the experience, Mellick always includes a personal introduction to his novels, which gives the reader a feeling for the man behind the magic, so to speak. If you would like to spend your time immersed in a book that not only expands your idea of what creative fiction can be, but is also thorougly enjoyable, then this book is for you.

Utterly fascinating, inventive and oftentimes hilarious read

Heaven is full and God has closed the gates. No more souls are accepted, so He discontinues death and creates a walm, a door that allows "toys" from other worlds to come in, for His entertainment. Imagine a world gone boring. Nobody cares about anything, so they sit, stare at the wall and shrug. Imagine being one of the few, who still has an inclination to care, searching for their place in a bizarre and twisted life. Such is Rippington, New Canada created by Carlton Mellick III. The cast of "punks" include Leaf an ex-drug addict who sees in third person through his God's eyes; Nan an ex-skinhead; Gin a conscious dead person whose body parts are alive courtesy of Satan's touch; and Vodka and Christian who appear to be the most normal out of the bunch. Then you have Satan ... THE Satan ... who opens a chain of restaurants called Satan Burger. You can eat there free, but it comes with a price. SATAN BURGER isn't for those who only like pure and pretty things. It's a weird and perverted tale, but if you're bored with your usual normal range of taste, start with this novel. Pick this book up with an open mind or you'll never make it past the cover art. Which would be a shame, because SATAN BURGER is an utterly fascinating, inventive and oftentimes hilarious read.

Refreshing and fun

I highly recommend 'Satan Burger.' It was just the refreshment I was looking for. This book effortlessly incorporates the insights of its author into a journey through an alternative to the real world. The style of the writing is strong but very relaxed, and has an improvisational quality that's lacking in too many books. Without getting into plot details, I'll mention that there's a very amusing reference to death metal fans, which explains this somewhat disturbing musical phenomenon (which I listen to). You'll probably never look at back seats or the moon the same way again, either. If you're in the mood for something different, I heartily recommend 'Satan Burger.' You may get sick of looking at the cover, but that's the price you pay for reading what's inside (well, other than what you pay for the book!).
