Old enough to be used Young enough to be brokenSassinak was twelve when the raiders came. That made her just the right age: old enough to be used, young enough to be broken. Or so the slavers thought.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I personally enjoyed the entire series but I'm a pretty diehard Anne McCaffery fan. The only book that disappointed me has nothing to do with this partticular series, The Skies of Pern.
Sassinak: A meaningful read

Sassinak is an incredible book, telling of one girl's heroism in overcoming a personal tragedy. The characters come to life as one loses all track of time. It incorporates the perfect blend of personal relationships and adventure without ever giving the impression that everything is already settled. Although this is a futuristic society, it deals with issues such as racism and exploitation that modern society still has to solve. The genre of the book only serves to emphasise the possibilites that could happen if we do not solve our problems. This is science fiction that could just happen some time in the future.
Excellent

Elizabeth Moon lends her convincing realism to Anne McCaffrey's SciFi storytelling, and the result is one of the most excellent books I have ever read (Fans of Medieval Fantasy should pick up Moon's "Paksenarrion" books). I unconditionally reccommend it to anyone who enjoys good Science Fiction.
Planet Pirates: One of my favorite book-series

Sassinak is a great book, although I think the other two parts, Death of sleep and Generation Warriors are even better (I'd give them 10 for sure). Undoubtably due to Elisabeth Moon's influence, Sassinak is a lot more militaristic and gritty than McCaffrey's other works. Starship battles and deadly close-combat fighting blend with romance and Sassinak's attempts at managing her personal life. If you want the whole story, Planet Pirates isn't enough. You'll have to start with Dinosaur Planet and Dinosaur Planet survivors (which I'd give a 6 each). Why hasn't Anne written more books about these wonderful charachters?
Excellent Reading! Space Pirates, Marines & Alien Cultures!

Anne McCaffrey does it again in the magnificent space thriller! I understand it is only one in a series... I am online to purchase the others now! I could not put the book down! Anyone who doesn't like this book, doesn't like good Science Fiction!
