This is the 18th in the series of DS9 tie-in novels, set between the third and fourth seasons of the series. As the novel opens a Bajoran city is facing disaster due to the failure of some engineering equipment left by the Cardassians. Major Kira offers her assistence but discovers to her discomfort that this will mean asking Quark for a favor. This is the more humorous 'B' story so common in the DS9 series. The 'A' story line involves Sisko and a reunion of survivors from the USS Saratoga, the ship that had been destroyed by the Borg at Wolf 359. The reunion is bittersweet for Sisko, while it would be good to see old friends again his wife, Jennifer, had died during the attack. Soon Sisko and his old friends find themselves facing more immenient danger and the growing realization that one of them is a traitor. SARATOGA is a fairly good tie-in novel. Events of the television series are expanded upon, the characterizations are consistent with the series and the premise is novel enough to be interesting. The pace does seem to drag a bit, particularly in the 'A' storyline. It would be a better novel if it were a bit shorter. Still fans of the series (and who else would read a tie-in novel?) will enjoy getting a glimpse into Sisko's past and will delight as Odo finds himself roped into a Ferengi scheme.
One of the best Star Trek books ever written.

This is one of my favorite Star Trek: Deep Space Nine books. I liked this book because it continues with events that were first seen in the pilot episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The subject of the book made for a good story. It was suspenseful and exciting and it kept me interested throught the whole story. I like these Star Trek books because they acccurately describe the characters and events in these books with great detail. I think that the author of this book wrote a very exciting and suspenseful story. It was also very entertaining. I really enjoyed reading this book. I think that it's really worth reading.

This book is one of the best I have ever read in the Star Trek line. I am a big fan of Deep Space Nine and Captain Sisko, so this was very interesting to read. But, I do have two complaints. One is that the Odo/Nog/power coils story was far out of synch with the rest of the novel. It would have been nice to focus on the Defiant's problems without always going back and forth. My second is that the reason that ***** betrayed them is because he was in debt to the Retizians? I was hoping for something far more substantial than that. But, despite that, it's one of the best. And I'm not kidding.
