This book was phenomenal in its amount and organization of the terribly hard to find historical information on colonial Pensacola. This information was incredibly accurate and thorough. However, with all of the information, the story did get a little dry and hard to digest. However, this book is a MUST for anyone studying Pensacola history. It really gives you a feel for the people who suffered through the first agonizing centuries. A lovely companion book is the "Archaeology of Colonial Pensacola", by Judith A. Bense. Bense is the authority on the archaeological history of Pensacola. Her book is also very accessible to the casual historian, as well as her peers.
