WPW: Radio Frequency Ablation Therapy

Sandy: A Heart for God tells the true story of a young man's struggle with Wolfe Parkinson White Syndrom (WPW) prior to the treatment options that are now available today. The book does a wondferful job of describing the trials and tribulations and occasional victories including how it served to aslo build Sandy's spiritual faith in God.WPW, first thought to be a psychological issue in 1918, is in actuallity a very misunderstood heart condition involving an extra electrical pathway which causes atrial phiberlations. Even when apparently normal, a delta wave can be seen on an EKG. If untreated, these 'bouts can occur at any time and under any situation. The resulting tacacardia (fast heart) is unable to distribute sufficient oxygen causing dizziness, severe oxygen dept, and possible fainting. For an active sports minded person, WPW can be very disruptive. Fortunately there is now a treatment option that sadly was not available to Sandy! As one who also suffered from WPW, ran track and has spirtual faith, my life paralled Sandy's throughout the book. Thankfully, in the past decade, significant progress has been made in treating WPW using Radio Frequency Abalation Therapy which unlike the open heart surgegy that Sandy had is a relatively safe, non-evasive, day procedure.
