Another good Rookie Reader - a review of "Sandbox Betty"

This is a good book for beginning readers. The topic of sand castles is interesting, the pictures cute, and there is rhyme, simplicity and repetition. Lines from the first few pages to give you an idea: Sandbox Betty builds them TALL. Wall to wall, she builds them Tall. She builds them well. She builds them swell. Of all the rest, hers is BEST. There are 35 words in the book including: all, and, beat, best, from, free, sand, and how. More difficult words are: builds, castles, Sandbox, Betty, swell and learns. The story shows Betty building various castles better than any one else, winning a first prize, and finally offering to teach others how to build them too. Four Stars. Good Read-aloud. Good book for the earliest readers. My son (just turned 5) has just started reading and the simplicity of the text and the rhyme have given him a real sense of accomplishment.

Sandbox Betty is Waiting for Your Little One

Sandbox Betty builds them tall. Wall to wall, she builds them tall. She builds them well. She builds them swell. -- It's sandcastles she's building in rhyme, with words that are easy for your pre-schooler to learn. And Sharon Elzaurdia has beautifully illustrated Catherine Petrie's little book, so your child will find it that much easier to grasp the words and their meanings. I like all the Rookie Reader books. They are just a great way to get a little pre-schooler started on his or her reading career. And an early start is so important in today's world. Children need every advantage they can get, so if you're a parent or guardian of a precious little one, I highly recommend Rookie Reader books. The dividends they will pay in the long run will be priceless.
