Samson: The Secret of Strength is part of the "Character and Charisma" series of books written on characters of the Bible. Phil Stanton uses the story of Samson from Judges 13:24-16:31 as the basis of the book. He views Samson's life through the eyes of Heb 11:32-34, where the character is listed as a man of faith. After introducing the book, each chapter discusses a portion of the Judges story. Current day applications are given.Although some scholars and readers view Samson as a man of dubious character, Stanton treats him with honour and graciousness. The book is easy to read and suitable for adult and teenage readers. Stanton makes good use of 'word pictures' as he paints the hero's story.Like many books it takes two or three chapters to catch your attention. At times I found the application material lengthy and personally irrelevant, and felt that it would have been better to let the lessons derived from the story speak to the individual reader. However, overall it was a thought provoking and helpful book.I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to understand more about Samson, a man of strength and faith.
