Great book to understand Visual Studio.Net

I was intimidated by the .Net Visual Studio IDE, but this book really helped me to understand how to use it. I tried most of the sample code and did not have problems with it. It is a very pratical book. I'm reading it a second time since last year to more fully understand this complex topic. Good job.

Great book, great author, and great support material

I am an ASP web developer with no knowledge on .Net. With the philosophy of "A job is as difficult as the tool you have to do with", I pick up this book and hoping to learn the tool for .Net Development. Beyond my expectation, this book jump started my .Net development instantly. I was able to explore the power of VS Studio .Net 2003 i.e. the Comment and Uncomment, Server Explorer and the Data Tool features. In addition, Chapter 10, 11, 12 and 13 on ADO.NET, XML, and WEB SERVICES blew me away with the author's examples that exposed the power and ease of development with Visual Studio .Net 2003. Email responded from the author in a day when I ran into a slight problem with the C# code on Chapter 10. This book also came with the author's great web site. In there, I was able to find all the up to date errata and source codes for the book. Plus, the author's website has many valuable resources.

THIS BOOK IS THE BEST ONE YET!!!

5 stars for this book! I needed to quickly learn how to use .NET and Visual Studio .NET and I am SO glad that I found this book in the multitudes of .NET books that are out there. This book is simply outstanding! I really appreciated how this author could take sometimes such complex topics and make them easy to understand and quite to the point. The great thing is that if you want to learn .NET (windows forms or asp.net) in either vb.net or C# then this book is the one to get to get you going and put you on the right path. Great job.

I should keep it to myself but you're bound to find out ...

I bought this book because I wanted to learn how to use the new IDE in Visual Studio.Net. I had just purchased ... VB.Net programming books and decided to purchase, "programming VB.NET: A Guide for Experienced Programmers" to come up to speed on Visual Basic syntax. So far I haven't been impressed with Gary Cornell's book. I can't put my finger on what's wrong with it but I wished I had spent more time broswing in the bookstore and less time being impulsive and believing all the glowing reviews. This book, "Visual Studio.NET 2003" however had been sitting on my shelf for weeks because I didn't believe it held the pertinent information I needed to get started with Visual Basic.NET, WRONG! It has everything necessary to get an experienced programmer focused on what the capabilities of the .NET framework has to offer and how to use them; and as an added surprise side by side comparisons of VB.NET and C#.NET. Examples are given in both languages and you can decide for yourself which language is most appropriate for you. It wasn't written to teach you programming however it does give the core syntax for VB, C#, ASP, and ADO.NET. It's very lucid and has a very good blend of graphics, prose and code examples. Simply stated, it's like going to a seminar to get targeted premium information without the associated costs of long winded boring presenters and high tuition, etc. I recommend this book to anyone uncertain about which .NET language to use, and people who are new to the Visual Studio.NET IDE. I wouldn't recommend it for for Beginners, however it is an easy read for people who understand proggraming and have already written a program for general use.
