Book Overview

The early Roman virgin-martyr whose bones were discovered in 1802. She immediately began answering prayers, with so many favors and miracles being granted that she was raised to sainthood by Pope Gregory XVI--becoming the only person recognized by the Church as a saint solely on the basis of her powerful intercession, since nothing is known of her except her name and the evidence of her martyrdom. St. Philomena is real! She's alive! She's alive!

I always admire visionaries who have private revelations of supernatural good. In this Age of unbelief and doubt, this saint is indeed powerful with God in her intercessory prayers! What struck me most was the 3 independent stories from 3 visionaries who don't know one another but came up with the same independent account of St. Philomena's life and martrydom. Considering that birth certificates are a modern invention, the only way independent sources can come up with her story are through direct visitations from the saint herself. I'm no stranger to the world of the supernatural and people who died the way St. Philomena died often come back to tell their stories in some form or another. Thank God St. Philomena isn't your typical lost, earth-bound ghost! One devotee in the this book describes his wife who discovers new things each time she opens this book. I experienced the same. Having read this book from cover to cover, you somehow never cease to find something new for your situation every time you open this book, as if you've never read a particular passage before. St. Philomena is a saint for the hopeless like the popular St. Jude. She brings light into our world of darkness. This book details the history, discovery and miracles wrought about by this unknown saint. A short Novena prayer is included at the end of the book. I consider myself a rational man of science and I had, for a time, doubted her story which seems to have been written out of popular piety - until something happened. Private revelations shall remain private. All I can say is that St. Philomena is real! Like all the miracle stories in the Bible, a miraculous (in the human sense) and direct intervention of God in today's world is often clamored for and yet dismissed and doubted. Until the discovery of anti-gravity technologies which are still being shrouded in secrecy, who would have believed that objects can indeed change directions in mid-air? For the person of faith living in the ancient world, as witnesses to this saint's martrydom, the lack of modern anti-gravity technologies available then is miraculous. Miraculous phenomena is common in Catholicism in all major world apparitions, but miracles shouldn't be the only things we are looking for, let alone ask for to prove that God exists. The subject of miracles and intercessory prayers are topics too deep to discuss in a quick book review. For skeptics and cynics of all shapes and forms, get yourself educated elsewhere first. The Catechism could be a place to start, or books like "Radio Replies" and "The Faith of Our Fathers" by James Cardinal Gibbons, or the series of instructional books on the Catholic Faith written by by Father John Laux. This particular book on St. Philomena best suits people of Good Faith. If you're a person of Good Faith and are looking for a patron saint or spiritual guide, you might want to start with a devotion to St. Philomena. How St. Philomena died, and choose to die, is a mo

My Favorite Saint

Oh! What a book, this is, it explains life of St. Philomena, virgin and martyr. She is an excellent example of virginity and martyrdom. This book serves as an example of how one should take care to follow God even unto martyrdom and save sex for holy matrimony. She refused to marry or give herself to a man who was married and on top of that St. Philomena had vowed her virginity to Christ.
