Kids get involved in the exiting adventure after another -- and learn a few lessons along the way about handling real-life conflicts -- with spunky Sadie Rose and her family on the Nebraska prairie.
This book is one of the best books I've read. I just discovered this series and I LOVE it! They are great books for girls 9-12, packed with not only adventure and action, but God's love, tenderness, and forgiveness as well. In this book, Sadie Rose's father has died in a blizzard. Mama marries a man named York, and Sadie Rose, her parents, her sisters Opal and Helen and her brothers Riley and Web move to the edge of the Nebraska sandhills in York's small, dark soddy. Sadie Rose blames herself for her father's death and carries the heavy burden of guilt. She feels that she can't love York, or she will be disloyal to Papa. In the beginning, she rescues a mistreated, dying puppy from a cruel man, Ty Bailer, and from then on Ty hunts her down, attempting kidnapping - and worse? Sadie Rose begins to sin more, lying to Mama and spying on Opal, her older sister. 8-year-old Helen follows her example and lies as well. Sadie Rose is bursting with feelings of guilt, sorrow, and pain. Then, Ty Bailer catches her alone in the night. Will Sadie Rose be able to escape and also accept her father's death - and God's forgiveness - and manage to love York?
