Another masterpiece from Teri Holbrook

Sad Water, like Holbrook's previous two novels, carries the profound theme through flowing, lyrical prose and uncanny insight into the minds of extraordinary characters. The story engulfs the perceptive reader, and the haunting denouement lingers long after the final page. Teri Holbrook may well be the most gifted writer of our time.

Outstanding!

In her third novel, Teri Holbrook has again written a gripping suspense novel. The characters are offbeat and the storyline is intense. I couldn't put it down until I reached the ending. I highly recommend this novel to anyone, especially Minette Walters fans.

A lovely book, a great plot

Sad Water is such a beautiful title and it describes the book so well. As usual, Teri's work is sheer poetry. The series gets better with each book.

A totally absorbing mystery

In 1833 Mayley in Northern England, the Luddites torched the mill that represented the industrial revolution that was depriving them of their livelihood. However, the desperate group was unaware that six of their children were locked inside the burning building. To escape the intense flames, they jumped into the nearby Sette Water where they all died. The mill was rebuilt on the same spot and became very prosperous for its owners. Two of the owners immigrated to America where they constructed a mill in Statler's Cross, Georgia. In the present era, Nadianna Jesus receives a grant to create a photo-essay of the two mills. While Nadianna takes the pictures, Gale Grayson writes the accompanying text. Only for Nadianna whom she cares a great deal for, would Gale return to hated England, a place where her terrorist husband committed suicide. In Mayley, Nadianna sees a charred torso floating in the nearby water and a church congregation observes a burning body fall from the window of the mill. In spite of her personal loathing of violence, Gale assists the her London police boyfriend in his efforts to learn what is happening to the troubled town.SAD WATER is an appropriate title for Teri Holbrooks' complex mystery. Though the superb tale mostly takes place in the present, the roots of the story line remain embedded in the early nineteenth century. There are many viable suspects, numerous red herrings, and unexpected twists to the plot. However, the strength of the novel remains with the characters. Even when they commit criminal acts, the readers experience empathy and understanding, similar to the way the audience feels for Valjean. Though not a Hugo, clearly Ms. Holbrook is a talent that adds much to the mystery genre.Harriet Klausner
