Annja is back on track

I've read all the books in the Rogue Angel series thus far and I have to say this is one of my favorites. Actually, in my opinion, this is the best book since Serpent's Kiss. Annja is back in character and is much more human than in previous books, depending on a marine for survival in the jungle for example. The book keeps you interested until the end, the whole crocodile thing was ridiculous, but after that incident the book picks up again and has a great plot twist at the end that really surprised me. Another issue is the authors lack of knowledge about the US marine corps, I served 5 years in the corps and their was definitely some flaws with the sniper...however i don't take anything away from the book since it is fiction and the general reader wouldn't be able to pick up on the flaws. Overall this is worth reading as a fan of the series or as a stand alone.

A Terrific Read

To be honest, the last few Rogue Angel books have been uneven and have fallen victim to the dreaded "forumla." In particular, Annja doesn't really search for anything. The stories basically run her around, get shot at (frequently) and is handed artifacts on a platter. Sacrifice, however, was a refreshing break. The story was truly engaging and was a truly entertaining read from start to finish. In the story, Annja doesn't search for anything other than an escape after being mistakenly kidnapped by a terrorist cell. A well-written deep cover U.S. marine helps to pull the story along. I was ready to give up on the series. Sacrifice will keep me in the game for a little longer.

Sacrifice a good escape read

This book was a great page turner. I couldn't wait to see what else would happen.

Payback is a ****!

The past couple of books have Annja suffering a lot of grief with no payoff, this time she gets justice and a really competent guy. But still this book takes us for a ride full of drama, drama, drama.

Annja is back on track!

I was disappointed in the previous two books in this series, but this one seems to have gotten our heroine back to where she should be. After being mistakenly kidnapped on a research trip to the Philippines, Annja finds herself lost in the deep jungle and hunted by terrorists. The story unfolds rather predictably with Annja surviving on her wits and a bit of luck, takes a more supernatural turn and gets a little strange, then jumps back into the normal. (remember the second Indiana Jones movie?) One complaint I've had about previous books in the series is that the wrap-up occurs within the bounds of a single chapter and it seems rushed. This one is different in that, even after the first conflict is resolved, there is more that must be discovered, planned and resolved differently. It felt almost like a James bond film -- in this case, that was a good thing. Like _Polar Quest_, Garin and Roux are not even mentioned in this story. Because of the setting for most of the story, mention of them would have had to be an aside or flashback, so I believe it woks here. Unfortunately, the mythology of the Sword cannot be further understood without either of them involved, so this is more an action story than actually furthering our knowledge of Annja or the Sword.
