The unique Tibetan Buddhist amalgam of shamanism, spiritualism, magic, and myth is explored and revealed through its stunning imagery. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This slim, oversized paperback is well worth owning. The color and b & w photos of Tibetan people, practices, places and art are wonderful and include ritual items, statues, stupas, giant hillside paintings, prayer wheels, prostrating pilgrims, monks, thankas, the Dalai Lama using phurbas during a sacred sand-painting ceremony, the Potala Palace, colorful lama dancing, and other historical and contemporary depictions of Tibetan Buddhist life. The text is another matter. Hopefully, readers will look elsewhere for an informed introduction to Tibetan Buddhism. One photo of a "mani stone" is upside down, suggesting the editor might have been unfamiliar with the appearance of Tibetan writing. Despite its limitations, it is worth every penny for the unique collection of photos.
