From the origins of agrarian myths to controversies over farming and the environment, this book provides an overview of the use and abuse of agrarian values in policy making.
Congress consistently continues to enact subsidies to make the rich farmers richer and the poor poorer, both worldwide (!) and in the USA. This is a well documented slim volume (with some charming cartoons) on the perpetually inane and immoral agrarian policy of the USA. Written in the early 90s but certainly not outdated. Readers of Joseph Stiglitz` recent best selling "Globalization and its discontents" will find in this volume more ammunition on the agrarian aspects of the subject than they could ask for. Professionally sound and entertaining on top of it - highly recommended.
