History Gem

What a fantastic account of such an amazing life of Sacagawea and the Lewis and Clark expedition. Stacy DeKeyser does such a wonderful job relaying the awe-inspiring story of this young girl. Since it's been quite a few years since I have taken any sort of history class, this book was not only very fun and exciting to read it was also very well informative since DeKeyser has done so much accurate research for her book. I love the story, pictures, maps, side notes, glossary, references and further information. The book as a whole is beautifully crafted.

Would love to read more

DeKeyser did a wonderful job in bringing Sacagawea to life. If I'd read this book as a middle grade student, I'd be on the hunt for more reading about Sacagawea and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. An excellent book for presenting the facts while feeding the imagination and firing up the love of learning.

Who says history books are boring?

This biography for middle-schoolers is a wonderful combination of accurate information, readable style, and eye-pleasing illustration. The book is packed with colorful photos and maps, as well as interesting bits of information in the many sidebars. But it's much more than a pretty picture book. I came away with a strong respect for Sacagawea, who didn't let her age, gender, or race stand in the way of speaking her mind and making a significant contribution to the Lewis and Clark expedition. A glossary, timeline, and list of books for further reading round out this terrific book.
