Mike Kilburn, returning from Lake Tahoe, finds a car in the ditch, its front end smashed, and smoke coming from under the hood. As he gets closer, a man holding a gun runs across the road to his car and speeds away. Mike stops and becomes involved in the life of Daniele Thorpe, a freelance reporter who just witnessed a murder at the home of Carl Delano crime boss. Her attempt to escape her pursuer has failed and she is now lodged inside her wrecked car. Together they must outrun Carl's men who have been sent to kill her, and remove the only witness that saw the murder.
