Great book!

Contrary to what people have been saying in their reviews about the flashy cover leading them to believe that this was a quote "light" read I'll restate the old quote. Don't judge a book by it's cover. Additionally I found the latest Anna Maxted novel very amusing and I laughed so hard while reading it that my cat had an anxiety attack. Anna Maxted blends humor and drama so perfectly that one minute your laughing and the next worried over what Nat has gotten her into next. One thing that I thought was very interesting was the way that all of a sudden you realize what Nat's problem has been. Anorexia. I highly recommend this book!

I loved it!!!!

I know this book has gotten a lot of bad reviews, but I personally loved it. this was the first book I have read of Anna Maxted's and went out and bought "Getting over it" immediately after finishing "running in heels". I finished the book in one day because I was so involved in it. I think it is the perfect summer read! I can't wait until her next book!

A wonderful, well-written book

Despite what some other reviewers are saying, I think this is a wonderful novel. Anna Maxted has written a perfect 2nd novel, in my opinion. I find the character of Natalie to be sensitive and caring. I did not find her to be selfish and unlikable at all - I think the motives for her actions came from a sense of deep caring for her friends and family and the need to fit in with them. Her way of expressing herself came from frustration as a result of her illness. I don't believe that her actions were meant to hurt others, but more to protect herself. I think the character is very well developed throughout the book and the constant change in Natalie's character is very subtle. The other characters in the book were also engaging, particularly her mother. The author has created a beautifully crafted novel that kept me engrossed throughout. This is NOT "Getting Over It Part 2", but if you appreciate it for what it is, you will enjoy this book tremendously.

A superb 2nd effort by Maxted

Anna has such an incredible abilty to write brilliant, funny, and entertaining stories. I loved Getting Over It, I decided to give Running in Heels a try. The main character, Natalie, has ALOT of issues...it's a great story of how she "works" through them all. Maxted has such a wonderful sense of humour - she adds in these little phrases that you know you have thought of at one time or another when you were in a similar situation. (ex: Nat's comments about her mum) And see what is happening to me? I am reading all these novels by British authors - I am starting to "talk" like them! Happy Reading!

I disagree!

I disagree with the review of this book. I bought it last week and found myself racing to the end, very much involved in the world within the pages. I think that Natalie is very much a sympathetic heroine because she's not perfect, she doesn't have all the answers, and like the rest of us, she makes it all up as she goes along. I found Maxted's approach on the character's eating disorder to be really well done. I didn't see it coming, even though there were clues, just like the character didn't see it coming until her friend pointed it out to her. I found the descriptions of how she was feeling and how confused and in denial she was to be very believable.I really loved this book. I couldn't put it down. A lot of the issues that Natalie confronts in the book are not neccessarily pretty, but they are things that women in their 20's all seem to go through. I loved these characters and rooted for them, to the very last page.
