It's the eve of the Festival of Greatness and Dane has a big problem. He's yet to choose his nickname. Dane the Dangerous? Dane the Despicable? He can't decide. But when Dane sees his proud father shamed by the evil tyrant Thidrek the Terrifying, Dane's indignation earns him a moniker that sticks--Dane the Defiant! And when Thidrek kidnaps Dane's beloved Astrid in hopes of trading her for the ultimate power of the gods, Dane defiantly goes after him like a bat out of Valhalla. Braving treacherous seas, deadly creatures, and a lovestarved Frost Giant, Dane and his rowdy band of Norseboys embark on an epic quest to end Thidrek's reign of terror and take their place among the greatest Viking heroes of all time.
I bought this book for my 11-year-old and we read it together. He is not usually one to become excited about reading a book, but he really liked this story. It's fun, exciting, and just a little exotic, but not difficult - none of the unpronounceable place and character names that scare off many young readers and even drive old ones like me to distraction. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series by these authors ... and hoping for a movie, too.
A Book You cant put down!!!

Rune Warriors is a great work of art. It had unexpected twists and turns and was altogether a great book. The Characters were amazingly clever both in personality and in name. I liked the setting and the kind of mythology that was used because most people don't know of Norse mythology and it broadens your knowledge. Also very few books are written with Norse mythology as a main theme. It was a great kids book and had two unlikely friends team up together. I give this book a 5 star Review and I think that even adults will love it. Once you start reading this book you'll won't want to put it down until you are finished with it. I was forced to stop reading it at times it was so good. I think everyone should read this book.
A must read!

I was given the Rune Warriors book from a friend, who read it himself and proclaimed it was a must read. I am happy to say that I am now passing it along to another one of my friends with the same enthusiastic recommendation. I loved this book. I ended up devoting an entire Saturday, and reading it straight through. Jennewein and Parker have written a compelling book that is full of humor, heart, excitement, and drama. I don't want to give away the plot, because this book will surely keep you guessing until the end, but I will say that I was rooting for the main characters in every adventure they went through in this book. I found myself holding my breath as I turned the pages - and I am now holding my breath until the next book in the Rune Warriors series comes out, because I can't wait to see what will happen next!
