Loved it

Three years ago Rule Dewar agreed to wed 16 year old Violet Griffin because her dying father asked him to. This deal made Rule into a wealthy man and while Violet stayed behind in Boston he lived the last three years in London like a single man. He promised to give her time to grow up however Violet is not longer willing to wait. She has traveled to London to get an annullement because she met a young man she wishes to marry. Rule is shocked that Violet is no longer the boyish girl but a beautiful woman. He knows that he should have taken more notice of her in the last years and wants a chance to show Violet that they could have a happy marriage. She agrees to spend 30 days with Rule and hopes that after this time she will be free of him. But the strong attraction between them is hard to ignore and when after a tragic accident they spend a night together everything changes. Violet still wants out of her marriage but Rule realizes that she is the one woman whom he wants to spend his life with. Now that he knows that Violet is perfect for him he wants to convince her that their marriage could be so much more than a deal made by her father and that Rule is the one man to make her happy. I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Rule's bride" by Kat Martin. The story is entertaining, the characters are interesting and the mystery adds some thrill. At first I was a bit sceptical about Rule but after a few pages I really started to like him. To see how he fell in love with Violet was great and lovely. Violet is a very strong and outspoken heroine and I was fond of her right from the start. I enjoyed that she and also her cousin Caroline were willing to go after what they want and weren't passive. Violet and Rule make a great couple and I loved that in the end he appreciated that she is a very modern and strong woman. The deep friendship between Violet and Caroline is another part of the book that I enjoyed. I also loved that there's a second love story between Caroline and Rule's best friend Luke and it was nice to read about them. There's also a mystery part in the book about who is trying to frame Rule with a murder. The mystery is not too dark and it definitely added a thrilling element to the story. All in all I enjoyed reading this book a lot and can recommend it to everyone who likes intelligent and lovely historical romances.

An Enjoyable Read

I enjoyed the story, even the subplot involving minor characters. I would read this author again.

Final book in the Bride Trilogy - Rule's Story

On the Duke's death bed he asked his son one thing - each would change their lives forever. Rule Dewar (youngest son) was asked by his father to go to American and continue to build their financial power. While in America - he was asked by his boss to marry his daughter Violet Griffin for 1/2 of the business. Violet father was dying and he wants her married to a good man. Violet was 16 when they were married and she travels to England 3 years later to get an annulment so she can marry another man. Rule asks that she wait for 30 days and try to make their marriage work... Great twist and turns - secondary romance, murders, fire and the whole cast from Trilogy takes a bow. I have really enjoyed this Trilogy - pick them all up and Enjoy! Royal's Bride & Reese's Bride.

Great read. Final in the Bride Trilogy! Rule's Bride by Kat Martin

RULE'S BRIDE by Kat Martin is a Historical Romance set in 1859 Boston and ends in 1862 England. It is well written. It has intrigue, mystery, murder, love, romance, and sensuality. The characters are charming, independent, and strong. The secondary characters are just as strong. The heroine's cousin finds love in the hero's best friend, therefore there a story in the brew. It is fast paced and page turner. The characters will draw you into the story with them. Therefore, the hero and youngest of the Dewar brothers, he is not a force to be reckoned with as the other two. He is not sure what love is or how it feels, but through advice from his older brother he realizes what it is and he is in love with his wife. This is a captivating story of young love and what a dying father will do to ensure this lovely daughter's future and well being. If you not read the other two in The Bride Trilogy (#1 Royal's Bride and #2 Reese's Bride) I would recommend them. I would recommend this story. This book was received for review from Net Galley and details can be found at My Book Addiction and More and MIRA books.

enjoyable Victorian romance

In 1857 Boston, visiting Londoner Lord Rule Dewar agreed to marry the teenage daughter of Howard Griffin, owner of Griffin Manufacturing. The deal was pure economics as sixteen year old Violet gets a title and the man she has a schoolgirl crush on and Rule gets a gun manufacturing firm. He returned home to a life of much greater affluent debauchery while she remained in New England. Three years later Violet arrives unannounced in London to demand Rule agree to an annulment. Attracted to his feisty beautiful American wife, he wants to consummate their marriage, which he failed to do when they exchanged I do. She insists she has someone else in mind for her marriage bed. Falling in love, Rule persuades her to give him one month to prove they belong together as a happy married couple; if she still wants the annulment he will grant it without an argument. As he courts his wife, who has loved him since he came to her home in Boston, someone wants the pair kept apart and a murder is an acceptable means to achieve that end. The final R. Dewar's Bride historical romance (see Royal's Bride and Reese's Bride) is an enjoyable Victorian romance starring a married couple beginning their courtship three years after they wed. Although the marriage of economic convenience is an ancient standby of the historical sub-genre, Kat Martin refreshes it with her lead couple as she wants a first chance while his wife prefers a different chance with someone else. Readers will enjoy the intelligent tale as Rule has a climb higher than Big Ben to get out of the hole he is in when it comes to winning his wife's respect though he has her love. Harriet Klausner
