"Rudy's Memory Walk" is the eighth novel in the author's 'Roosevelt High School' series, which features a multi-cultural group of teenagers who encounter modern social issues and concerns. Rudy shares his home with his Abuela, or grandmother, who displays strange and forgetful behavior that leads the family to take her to the Dr. to determine what is wrong with her and what they should do to care for her. They find that Rudy's Abuela has Alzheimer's disease. Many adjustments and roles are explored and problems are encountered as Rudy and his family reintegrate their lives around this new meaning and experience. Rudy learns to feel compassion for his Abuela and to reap a hard won reward of family support when he tries to assist her with her daily memory refresher activities.
