Birdfeeders? Ask Audubon!

If you have a backyard or know people who do, this is a great book that will help you set up feeders and birdhouses in ways that work best for the birds. It is both beautifully laid out and illustrated -- a very pretty book, full of photos -- and extremely practical about how to arrange your feeders to attract and encourage the birds to stick around. Factory farming (take a look at page 11), development, and pollution are killing off even common birds. The situation is pretty dire. Backyard feeders can make a huge difference, especially during migration. As a Manhattanite I do not have a yard at all, but I bought this book for myself because it's a beautiful book, then over the next year or two gave copies as presents to three (four?) families I know who do have yards. I encourage you to do the same!

Not Your Typical Field Guide

The layout is certainly different and it's a hardback for one. I own several other National Audubon Society field guides and somewhat expected this book to resemble them. Even though it does not I have still been quite pleased with it. I bought it to give as a gift but I still have it. I like it enough it's been difficult to part with. I'm sure my guilt will some day surpass my greed and I will feel compelled to finally give it up. I have already learned quite a bit from this book like some of the Latin scientific species names. I would recommend this book to anyone with a bird feeder or anyone, who like me, finds themselves gazing out at the yard and watching nature.

Great Book

This book tells the bird lover everything they need to know about birds. even what kind of plants they like. I am very pleased with it.

bring nature into your yard

This lovely DK (Dorling Kindersley) has the trademark vivid photographs on every page. Detailed information on discouraging squirrels, plans for making your own feeders of different types and lists of various birds you can attract using various methods. Each bird page has a detailed photo of the bird, a map of the United States showing where and when you can see the bird, behavior and description of sounds and songs, nesting habits, and the best kind of food to attract and benefit the birds you want.Information on bird baths and nesting boxes is also provided.A great resource for those who love to have God's creatures in their yard, but don't know the best way to attract them.

Made Me Coo With Joy...

...to receive this fine book! Trying to identify the birds visiting my backyard feeder with old field guide books was not working. They simply had too much information geared for experts. This book is nicely laid out and clear, offering tips for attracting, feeding, watering and identifying the birds visiting your backyard, as well as instructions for building bird houses, feeders, and so on. I put several of the ideas to use immediately! If you are an amateur backyard birder, this is the book for you!!
