Alexandra Rothman, the powerful editor of Mode magazine, hides a family secret so dark that it could destroy her career forever. Reprint. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is a big, juicy read which would make a wonderful tv soap opera. The Rothman's are a New York family who made their millions through the rags to riches saga of a poor Russian Jewish immigrant, H.O.Rothman who legally conned his way into the notice of a bankrupt newspaper owner and who built it into a conglomerate of publications, topped by the old fashion magazine, Mode. The editor is Rothman's grand daughter in law who was a small town girl who married into the family. The story encompasses greed, bribery, lust, adultery and everything one could imagine in this kind of story and introduces well known real names of movie stars, politicians, fashion designers and the rest of the glitterati who wine, dine and party their bejewelled wives and mistresses in glamorous locations in America and Europe. The elder son of the newspaper owner is determined to get rid of his daughter in law and replace her with his latest mistress, an English woman who sports a phony title and background and who doesn't hesitate to use every dirty trick in the book to achieve her ends. It's a whopper of a read and could easily be made into the kind of soapie about the rich and famous which could run for years.
