Good Speed and Services!

I received the book in a good timely manner, and it was shipped in neat clean packaging. Book was new as expected. Great Job!

Concise while not forsaking depth

This commentary, while not being overly technical, trolls the depth of this sometimes-hard-to-understand New Testament epistle, in a readable manner. As a pastor, I consulted this commentary on a few select passages relevant to my teaching and preaching schedule, and ended up just reading it straight through as a devotional. One doesn't need to have gone to seminary or read Greek to benefit from it. For those familiar with the highly quotable commentaries of John Stott and/or William Barclay, for example, I believe Edwards is more quotable even to an audience of laymen. The only (slight) drawback for my personal taste, is the biblical text is not isolated; rather, it's inserted within the commentary in bold print. But don't let that stop you from buying this book. 5 stars.

Great for preaching, yet careful in exegesis

This commentary on Romans is one of my favorite ones. (I have hundreds of commentaries-and am a preaching pastor who works exegetically from the Greek text). Edwards gives a lot of great ideas on how to present the concepts. So for preaching, he's a goldmine (as Stott is also-but I like Edwards commentary more that Stott's). I don't always agree with his views on a passage, but always feel he's careful and that he does a great job presenting the view he has. This book is shorter than some of my commentaries, and does not handle all the issues on every paragraph that may emerge, but Edwards emphasis is refreshing and extraordinarily helpful for a serious student or a pastor working on a sermon from a Romans passage. This commentary is one that I will probably always refer to when writing a sermon from Romans. It is in my top three Romans commentaries and I would recommend it highly to everyone. Excellent!

Dr. Edwards now teaches at Whitworth College in Spokane Washington and I took his Romans class, using his commentary for the text and it was a fantastic way to get more in depth with the book. He is an accessible writer and person, making very good points, bringing things to light one might not think of even after many readings and also giving good background and historical context to the text. It is easy to read and he writes like a professor, making it worthy for students, scholars and pastors.
