Paul MacKendric has singled out a dozen aspects of Roman life, such as Roman philosophy, heroes, and creativity, and written a concise chapter on each. What makes this book so valuable, however, is the second half, in which MacKendric has collected original source material to illustrate, chapter by chapter, point by point, what he has said in the book's chapters. It is an interesting read, and informative to boot.
