The best book on n-tier application dvelopment using VB

I don't know how this book got only a rating of 2.5. This is one of the best book on the market on MTS/n-tier app development. I don't thing anyone else could write a better book on this subject. Eventhough it is little outdated with the arrival of Win2K and COM EXPLORER you could still get a wealth of information.

Excellent basic information

The book never goes below the surface of MTS but since I had never used MTS before that's not what I was looking for. The text provides the essential information I needed to start developing components that would work with MTS.

"Teach Yourself MTS in 30-days"

I purchased the book in order to get up-to-speed with MTS. Although it left some unanswered questions, the book lived up to its promise to get me up-and-running with MTS in a flash. Using the sample code as a basis, I built and deployed my first MTS app in a little less than a month. A follow-up book providing deeper insight into the MTS runtime would be desirable.

Lives up to its name

Other readers have commented that this book is not an advanced book on MTS or that it doesn't serve as a good reference. However, this book does not advertise itself for either of those roles. Instead, this book does a great job of introducing the reader to the new obstacles presented by MTS and presents step-by-step instructions on how to understand and overcome those obstacles--hence "Workshop" as part of the book's title. This book was invaluable in getting over my initial fight with MTS. Plus, the minor flaws with the book's sample code are easily overcome, and when I did have a problem, the authors responded to my emails the very same day. If you need to come up to speed on MTS quickly, you should buy this book!

Get this book - Great MTS, Client/Server workbook

It appears most of the reviews are about CD-ROM problems, index problems, etc. This may be the case but lets get to the books content. This is not a techies dream. This book is meant as an MTS 2.0 real world overview. How to use MTS with VB, VC++ and Java. It presents a real-world n-tier business solution for IS professionals. The code is great, can be re-used in different senieros. I would get this book if you want accurate information about MTS, how to impliment it, and how to use it in real-life situations.
