Rock Springs Arizona Its History (Arizona History)

The history of Rock Springs Arizona is truly fascinating. When Ben Warner came to Arizona, it was a new State only eight years old, new territory, with young dreams of prosperity. Ben Warner as it seems left from a State established, chasing after the dreams for a new start in life, burning a past life of despair. His Rock Springs property started out at 40 acres of land, eventually to nearly 400 acres. No one living knows what his goals were. But, for the Black Canyon area, Rock Springs was all things possible. He first sold 154.12 acres to Albins. Then another majority of the property was sold to the State for highway. Development in 1948, caused the Rock Springs dynasty to continue to diminish. Finally by the mid 1960's, the family of Ben Warner loses all the land east of the business to the State of Arizona to the development of I-17 highway. For southern Yavapai County Arizona, Ben Warner was the first to put Rock Springs on the map. Other than his business and ranch, the post office, school district and electoral precinct were named Rock Springs.Author Michael Sandford is a 50+ years Arizonian who has made the Black Canyon area his home. He held various positions from Phoenix to Black Canyon via several mining towns that are no longer on the map. Michael's desire to present documented factual history started as a teen, writing articles for newspapers such as the Black Canyon Times, and Arizona Republic. Later Canyon Country News, published by Robert Helgeson and Foothills Focus, published by John Alexander, as a free-lance photographer and reporter for over 3 years. He has researched and written about Arizona history, for better than twenty-five years, with his work published in many Arizona newspapers. His representation of Rock Springs is documented and factual from the view of the Warner family. He is one of three founding members of the Black Canyon Historical Society. Elizabeth Wright and Robert Helgeson founded the society with Sandford, however, Sandford is the only one living. He is the author of "Black Canyon City - A Thimble of History" published 1998. He also is an award winning poet and photographer. His most recent book of poetry titled, "Knick Knacks and Notions" was published 1999. His latest history story, "The Last Stagecoach Ride" based upon a true story.
