Meaningful Words of Comfort and Wisdom

I often rely on Adolfo Quezada's words of wisdom for myself and others, and his book, Rising From The Ashes is among the most concise, strong and grounded books to date that address the need for a new and deeper consciousness following the tragedies of September 11. As a trauma specialist, therapist and well-known author, he has a way of looking at life that gets to the bones. He gets right to it in the preface, writing, "To be touched by God does not mean that our sadness is gone. We still encounter times of grief and trouble." Writing with streamlined clarity and depth, he realistically describes the emotion of feeling reduced to nomads wandering in the desert alone, without purpose, direction or understanding following terror. He talks about the falsity of kidding ourselves into thinking meaning can come by making a stronger effort or by praying harder and longer. What he calls for is surrender into our sadness and remembering that it is God's nature to desire intimacy with us. Stripped of our externals that gratify, he explains that it is not within our power or human responsibility to generate spiritual movement. Ours is but to make ourselves quietly available to God, he writes, especially through the dark times when our hearts are breaking. He writes of the gift of community support, the serious time of grieving alone and psyche's need for solitude, safety of thoughts and revelations where we learn to `dream new dreams and potential is unveiled.'
