Book Overview

Two hard-headed, passionate people . . . Two stubborn opponents with tender souls . . . Sometimes wars of the heart can only be won through the sweetest of surrenders.

The War Between the States may be over for the rest of the country, but not for Kit Weston. Disguised as a boy, she's come to New York City to kill Baron Cain, the man who stands between her and Risen Glory, the South Carolina home she loves. But unknown to...

Risen Glory

Very disappointed. Character meaness dragged on.

Superb

I love Gone With the Wind, this was my first SEP book, and seriously I've finaly forgiven Margret Mitchel. Ok their so not Scarlet and Rhett after all she wants to be a boy, and he's well nice but somehow it still feels the same, I guess ultimalty their connected for the same reasons that the Buttlers are they are two unquie people who fight. Kit is the rejected daughter of a rotten slave owner who only has one desire in her life, get her birthright, the only problem being her stepbrother Baron was left the plantation and Kit in his mother's will. Before he knows this she plans to kill him, dressed as a boy and in the north. There are some "These old Shades" similartites but only at first the book really becomes very original. What I loved most was the wedding, the shot out and the very end, why? Read and find out

Super rewrite of Phillips' 1984 Risen Glory!

In case you don't have ($) to buy a rare, tattered copy of Phillips' first book from 1984, RISEN GLORY, you're in luck--Kit and Baron are back in this excellent rewrite, and they're better than ever! The Civil War is over for the rest of the country, but not for Kit Weston. She's come to New York City disguised as a boy to get revenge. Baron Cain stands between her and Risen Glory, the South Carolina home she loves. Unfortunately for Kit, Baron isn't just her bitter enemy, he's been appointed her guardian.Kit is an extremely strong heroine, but Baron is more than a match for her. If you love historicals where the heroine is disguised as a boy (I do!), and the hero and heroine are each other's natural antagonists, where the action never stops, the story is fast-paced, and the sexual tension burns, you will really enjoy this book--it has it all!

I loved this book! It's a keeper!

I had such fun reading this book. I love reading Susan Elizabeth Phillips and it was great to see an early effort and a historical to boot. I don't usually read books set around the Civil War, but her name on a book would make me want to read any time period. Kit and Baron are exciting, fun, and truly classic Phillips' characters. Reading this, I could see the birth process for all the other later books I love so much. It's a keeper. And a treasure.

So Good I've Read It Many Times !

Risen Glory is not your predictable romance. Full of wonderful twists mixed into a terriffic storyline to keep you riveted ! The characters are really interesting and if it doesn't make you cry, you're heartless. Don't start this book on your lunch hour, because you won't go back to work... One of SEP best. I sincerely reccomend you should read it! Don't take my word for it......

I read this in 1985

I read this book while vacationing in Spain. I was teaching in Germany at the time and my sister had sent me the copy from the U.S. I remember it as a very good and lusty story. I am going to go back and read this again.
