Riku is a ninja and a martial arts student (who is still learning) with grand aspirations but low self-esteem. At the top of the Windshadow Dojo, where only the most skilled and powerful ninja could be chosen, Riku's clumsy attempts at ninja craft cause him to be mocked. Despite the sneers of his rival, Hiro, Riku is determined to prove that strength isn't just about speed and power-it's about the mind and heart.
As soon as the dojo posts the Shadow Challenge, a perilous trial in the foggy woods to recover a golden gong, Riku knows his moment. At the same time, as Hiro rushes forward with an offensive approach, Riku judiciously navigates traps and obstacles set in the path. Riku's resourcefulness leads to his progress, as does Hiro's growing one, but Riku starts to understand that his apparent lack of strengths is actually his strengths.
"Riku the Clumsy Ninja: The Legend of the Golden Bell" is a tale of selfdiscovery and strength for the young reader at heart.
